stained glass art and repairs by Laura Pop

Toronto, Canada

an old-timey craft with a new-timey feel

As a stained glass artist, I specialize in custom pieces that can be both decorative and functional.

This is an historical craft, and I’m here to reinvigorate it with a contemporary flair. With my graphic design background, I like to think of this art form as ‘painting with glass.’

Using both leading and Tiffany methods of construction; this gives more flexibility when designing your perfect piece (ie. indoor vs outdoor, amount of detail).

stained glass doesn’t have to be limited to religious icons and traditional frilly flowers

My work ranges from custom windows for residential and commercial projects to gallery-exhibited pieces that showcase the beauty, craftsmanship and imagination of stained glass.

In addition to custom creations, I offer repair and restoration services for your existing windows that are asking for a little TLC. I have worked on notable churches and buildings across the Greater Toronto Area with renowned company EGD Glass.

Services

  • All designs are original. I work with my clients to ensure their visions are fulfilled. And if you already have a design in mind, I am happy to consider collaboration.

I work with both leading and Tiffany methods of building so that any design can be created for any environment.

  • I offer both minor and major repairs for your glass pieces. Signs that your window may need some extra love include cracks or broken glass, buckling or warping, and general clean-up.

Many old houses around Toronto still have their original stained glass windows — it could be time to make yours shine.

  • Just as I pride myself on my original designs, I have worked with other artists to see their art in a new medium.

If you have a design or an image in mind, I would love to work with you to turn it into glass.

  • Looking to expand your brain and skills? I’m available for 1-on-1 classes introductory classes. Contact me for more info.

“Laura left me speechless when she was able to repair my early 1900’s one-of-a-kind church steeple circular stained glass window. She was able to repair a cracked piece, and also replace a missing piece of old glass with an exceptional colour match. It took me 45 years to find the correct artist of stained glass. Thank you, Laura!”

Process

The process of creating stained glass is not glamorous; it’s dirty, messy, and hazardous, but it is just as beautiful as the result.
